The Data Optimization Paradox: Optimizing Traffic Can Actually Increase Revenue
Data optimization can be a bit of a controversial topic among mobile network operators (MNOs). The network management team always wants to optimize as much traffic as possible – especially since data demand keeps exponentially increasing. The business team doesn’t like that idea at all though. When they hear “data optimization,” they hear “lost revenue.”
However, there is a paradox when it comes to data optimization that many MNOs are just starting to recognize and take advantage of: selectively optimizing data actually increases revenue.
Yes, this may seem counterintuitive, but the conventional wisdom that subscribers will pay for extra bytes beyond their data plan has proven generally false. Since the idea that data optimization will inevitably lead to lower revenues is based on incorrect assumptions, there are ways for MNOs to optimize the data on their network and make more money at the same time.
